The church was once a possession of the Abbey of La Sauve-Majeure. It seems to date back to the beginning of the Romanesque period, as evidenced by the rubble of this period used for the walls of the nave and the bay in front of the choir.
The eastern span of the nave (rearranged to receive a bell tower), as well as the apse in beautiful apparatus, result from a reconstruction of the XNUMXth century. Also in the XNUMXth century, a small side chapel was placed at the level of the southern flank of the nave.
In the XNUMXth century, under the leadership of Cardinal Donnet (archbishop of Bordeaux), the church was given a facade and a bell tower in the neo-Gothic style.
