Starting from Castillon-la-Bataille, a land of history where the Hundred Years' War between the English and the French ended in 1453, this hike will take you to the hillsides overlooking the town and the Dordogne valley.

Start date

The departure point is from the Promenade Dubourdieu, at the level of the Renée Lach park. Follow the Camille Pelletan quays and, before the bridge, turn right to pass under the "Porte de fer".

Step 2

At the end of rue Vienne y Vienne, turn left then immediately right after the small square to arrive at rue de la halle.

Step 3

Turn left onto Place du 14 juillet, then right to reach the traffic light. Go straight ahead towards the train station. Go around the building, cross the tracks and join Rue Montesquieu.

Turn left and follow the road to the intersection between rue Pierre de Coubertin and chemin de la Fond du loup where you will turn right. Go up the hill and continue until chemin de Lacoste.

After a few meters on the limestone path, take the grassy path opposite to go up into the woods. Take the ramp to access the Belvès-de-Castillon plateau. Pass between the rows of vines and follow the path into the woods opposite.

At the end of the woods, turn left onto the limestone path. After the first house on your left, turn left. At the first bend, turn left onto the vineyard path. Follow this path until you reach the tarmac road.

When you reach the tarmac road, turn right and go up the hill to the entrance to the village of Belvès-de-Castillon. Go behind the church and turn left. Follow the road to the right to pass in front of the school.

At the bend, take the road opposite. Continue until you reach the entrance to the Château de Castegens. Turn left onto the limestone path to find the tarmac road where you will turn right.

At the goose foot, turn right onto Route de la Bataille. At the bend after the pond, turn left onto the dirt road.

Turn left again onto the path between the poplars and follow the sunken path between the trees. Walk along the plot of vines then turn left onto the tarmac road. Follow the road to the place called Horable.

Cross the hamlet and follow the road to the crossroads where you turn left. At the bend, take the road which climbs slightly on your left.

Leave the small road to join the path in front of you. Follow this path until you go down towards the cemetery. Pass in front of the cemetery and follow the road on your right.

Turn left onto the small road that goes down. Go under the tracks and follow the road to the intersection of rue Pierre Curie and Bernard Lafon.

Turn right onto Rue Pierre Curie to reach Avenue Gambetta.

Turn left towards the traffic light where you will go straight ahead. After the light, turn left towards Place du 14 juillet, continue straight until you find the quays and your starting point
