The town was occupied from the ancient period, as shown by the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa discovered on the church square.
Between the Middle Ages and the French Revolution, Grézillac was attached to the barony and marquisate of Curton.
The village owes part of its past prosperity to the exploitation of limestone quarries. Currently, it is viticulture that dominates in the town.
The church of Grézillac, dedicated to Notre-Dame, has a square bell tower in the Romanesque style, dating from the XNUMXth century (which was once fortified). Under this bell tower is a magnificent cupola, also dating back to the Romanesque period.
At the foot of the church, there is also a remarkable altar of the Virgin, made up of fluted columns (crowned by Corinthian style capitals).
