Lamprey fishing

Lampreys are prehistoric animals that have a suction cup-shaped mouth (useful for food because they are parasites that attach themselves to certain fish to suck blood). Lampreys are “primitive vertebrates” devoid of jaws, scales and backbones. They are considered to be a kind of hybrid between an eel and a fish (and although not fish, they are often referred to as "vampire fish").

On our territory, the lamprey is fished in the Dordogne where it goes up to lay its eggs. The fishing methods are traditional: the lamprey is then caught using traps or driftnets. On the Dordogne, the lamprey is not angled and only professional fishermen catch it.

Other forms of fishing

On the Gironde Dordogne, fishing also concerns fish species such as pike, perch, pike-perch, white fish (carp, roach, bleak, bream, etc.). Migrators such as eel or shad are also present there. Fishing for large shad is prohibited.
As for the lamprey, the species mentioned here and the predators are subject to strict regulations (opening period of fishing, method of catch, type of bait used, etc.).

Girondins water bodies

In Gironde, you can fish in more than a hundred lakes and ponds (natural or artificial). They are managed either by the AAPPMA either by Federation.
