There are traces of a market hall in Branne (on the site of the Place du Marché) in the cadastre from the end of the 1770th century. In XNUMX, the King of France Louis XV authorized (by means of a letter patent) the holding of a market in the hall, every Thursday. At that time, the hall was owned by the Durfort-Civarc family. It will eventually be ceded to the town in the middle of the XNUMXth century.
The current hall, which dates from 1895, was built according to a rectangular plan. It is made up of 20 molded cast iron columns (which rest on freestone). The whole is surmounted by a roof with two sides and two ridges (with corrugated sheets).
The weekly Branne market is still held on this square, and under the hall, on Thursday mornings.
